To secure admission to BITS Pilani one needs to appear for the BITSAT exam. BITSAT is an online examination held around the JEE Advanced exam. A good strategy would be to choose the test date much before the JEE Advanced. The approach for BITSAT and JEE are different. In BITSAT speed is very important also facts not covered in std 12 syllabus are also asked sometimes. BITSAT allows a candidate to attempt extra questions if he or she is able to attempt all the questions in the stipulated time with time to spare.
For year 2014 the application for BITSAT was to be done by 15 Feb. Test Centre allotment was on 25 Feb. Reservation of test dates was from 1st March to 20th March. The online tests were from 14th - 27th June. JEE advanced was on 25 May. So the earlier you login and choose your test date the better.
BITSAT has morning and afternoon sessions being all online tests. Please see your comfort level for your ward. Morning is from 9:00 am - 12:00pm. Afternoon do not know. The score is known to you when you complete the test. This is a very big positive about this exam.
There is a window opened for filling in your preferences. Be careful while filling in the preferences. Fill in based on subject preference and institute which you would actually take up. You cannot change your preferences later.

From former students of BITS I understand the following:
EEE (called triple E) is the Electrical and Electronics course and E&I is the Electronics and Instrumentation course. I understand that 80% of the courses are common between these two courses. EEE has electrical, electronics and communication courses.
Payment using credit card is a good idea for the application. Net banking for a number of banks is available. In the information provided sometimes only a few banks are mentioned. If payment is not reflected on your account in a couple of days call up helpline.
Although filling in preferences is online. One needs to send the printed form through speed post to BITS Pilani.
Speed post tracking sometimes does not work so try both these sites for tracking your speed post consignment sent to BITS Pilani.
